Harold Charles Landaker was born on December 12, 1892 and studied at an early age at the Art Institute of Chicago, where he met his future wife, Mabel Holtz. For 15 years the couple traveled painting circus posters and wagons, as well as designing various entertainment sets. In 1940, Harold journeyed to Southern California to work on posters for the Orange Show and decided to remain there, joining the art department at MGM studios. In 1946, he moved his family to the Monterey Peninsula and settled in the small community of Pacific Grove. Known for his whimsical humor, he frequently depicted many different kinds of animals, circus life, and birds in his works. Later in his career he turned to painting landscapes of the Monterey Peninsula, and he died in Monterey, California on November 6
