Handmade Hereke carpet, made of wool, with a complex floral and geometric design, predominantly in shades of red and indigo. Hereke carpets are among the most valuable in the world. The Hereke brand was founded by the sultan in the mid-19th century to produce high-quality carpets for the royal court. They specialized in very expensive silk carpets, and Hereke silk carpets are the most expensive in the world. At the end of the 19th century, the Hereke workshops began production for the population, but they remained at a high quality both those made of silk and those made of wool. In the 90s, Turkey experienced a massive economic crisis and they sold the Hereke brand to the Chinese. Since then, quality carpets have continued to be manufactured in Hereke, but they are not allowed to inscribe 'HEREKE', this right belongs to the Chinese! The problem with the Chinese is that they started manufacturing with machines, and used the name 'HEREKE' on these products, which led to the decline of the brand. For this reason, old, handmade carpets, which are signed 'HEREKE' with Arabic or Latin letters, are older and more valuable. This carpet is a fine, handmade work, and is in very good condition. In reality, it is very attractive due to its elegance and refinement. It has a high number of knots/sqm: 360000 (256 kpsi). The only problem is that one of the edges is slightly torn, which I have highlighted in the photos. I did not take it to be repaired, because these parts must be repaired professionally or not at all, because it can be damaged if repaired at low quality.
