The Cisco VIC2-4FXO= is a four port FXO voice and fax network module that brings standard analog phone lines into a Cisco IP telephony environment. Installed in a compatible Cisco voice gateway router, the card lets you attach public switched telephone network lines or extensions from a legacy PBX so that voice traffic can move smoothly between traditional telephony and IP based systems.

Each port uses a familiar RJ 11 connector, which makes wiring straightforward for technicians who already work with standard telephone cabling. Once configured, the module supports dial tone, ring voltage, and caller ID, so routine phone and fax functions operate just as they would on a direct PSTN connection. Battery reversal detection further improves call reliability by making sure the gateway can recognise line signalling that indicates when a call begins and ends.

The module is supported in Cisco 2600XM, 2691, 3640, 3660, and 3700 series routers, which means a single hardware platform can serve voice, data, and security needs at a branch office or customer premise. Its universal design allows administrators to select the correct impedance and country setting through software, so the same part can travel wherever the network expands.

This flexibility makes the VIC2-4FXO= a practical choice for organisations that want to keep a small pool of analog lines as a fallback when IP connectivity is unavailable, or that need to integrate fax machines, alarm panels, or elevator phones that still depend on the PSTN. Service providers can also use the card to offer hosted voice services while preserving local breakout for emergency calls.

Highlights:
  • Four FXO ports for analog voice or fax lines
  • Standard RJ 11 interface for easy wiring
  • Compatible with Cisco 2600XM, 2691, 3640, 3660, and 3700 routers
  • Universal configuration supports regulatory requirements in most countries
  • Caller ID and battery reversal detection enhance call control
  • Mean time between failures rated at 1 245 152 hours
