The SS Republic, A 19th century steamship sank 100 miles off the coast of Georgia in 1865 During a Hurricane !! All souls lost she was carrying a large cargo of gold and silver coins, goods and provisions intended for the reconstruction efforts for the south.
In 2003 Odyssey Marine Exploration inc.
Discovered the wreck in 1700 ft of water and recovered only 1/3 of the treasure she was carrying. consisting of coins and artifacts. Which included dishware ,bottles etc.m
